Tire Warning Light
Your Dodge has a built-in warning, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). This system consists of sensors in the valve assembly of the tires that monitor their health. The sensors are linked to your car’s computer and report back on the tire’s health and pressure. These sensors are very accurate and can identify problems before they become a problem for your tires.
The TPMS constantly monitors your tires, and the tire warning light will illuminate if a potential problem is detected. The problem could be anything from a simple missing valve cap to something as extreme as a puncture. The sensor will detect the drop in tire pressure and warn you. Tire Cords Visible
Tires are composed of different components that provide strength, shape, and stability. The treads are the strongest part of your tires. They are the raised rubber sections in direct contact with the ground. This part of a tire sustains the most wear, and the tread has additional reinforcement to protect it. Steel cords with polyester reinforcement run directly underneath the tread and provide this strength.
If your tires are severely worn, the tread may have almost disappeared. When this happens, the smoother rubber underneath the tread will wear away and expose the reinforcing cords. Cords don’t provide grip or traction, and if you can see them your tire needs replacement immediately. Without tread, a worn tire can very easily fail. Tire Cracks
Modern rubber tires are both strong and flexible. Their flexibility allows them to adapt to different terrain and temperature levels. Strength allows the tires to carry your car’s weight and move at speed for thousands of miles. As your tires get older cracks can develop, particularly in the sidewalls. The sidewalls are the tire sections perpendicular to the tread.
These cracks develop as the rubber loses flexibility due to wear and tear from water, mud, and sunlight. Cracks can deepen, and this can result in a puncture or blowout. We can examine the depth of the cracks and replace any cracked, unsafe tires.
