When you’re looking for a work truck, you want one that can haul the gear and guys you need, and that is rugged and powerful enough to get you where you need to be. Here are four of the toughest trucks on the market.

1. Ram 1500

The workhorse of the 2020 Ram 1500 lineup is the Tradesman which has seating for six and is available with a quad cab and 6-foot-4-inch long bed or the bigger crew cab with the long bed or a five-foot-seven-inch bed. With rear-wheel drive and the available 5.7-liter V-8 engine, it has a payload of up to 2,100 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 12,750 pounds. Opting for all-wheel drive reduces the capacities to 1,710 and 11,470.

The Tradesman is just as tough on the inside with heavy-duty vinyl seating and floor mats for easy cleaning. Air conditioning keeps your crew cool when the going gets tough. For information and entertainment, you have a 3.5-inch driver information display, a 5-inch central screen, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, and six-speaker audio.

2. Jeep Gladiator

New to the pickup truck market is the 2020 Jeep Gladiator although, being based on the Wrangler, it’s no stranger to getting its wheels dirty. If your work is more off-road than heavy-duty, the Gladiator Sport could be for you with its legendary capability. It seats five, has a five-foot bed, and its 3.6-liter V-8 gives you a towing capacity of up to 7,650 pounds and maximum payload of 1,700 pounds.

The Gladiator is the only convertible pickup truck with its removable roof and doors and fold-flat windshield. After a day working in the mud and grime you can remove the carpets and floor plugs and hose out the interior. Opting for the Sport S gets you alloy wheels, power windows, power locking doors and tailgate, and heated mirrors.

3. Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The 2020 Silverado 1500 Work Truck (WT) offers a regular two-door cab with an 8-foot long bed, an extended double cab with a standard 6-foot-5-inch bed, or a crew cab with the standard bed or a short 5-foot-8-inch bed. Double and crew cabs seat six while the regular cab can seat three.

With the standard 4.3-liter V-6 engine and the regular cab, you have a maximum towing capacity of 7,900 pounds, while opting for the available 5.3-liter V-8 raises the capacity to 10,000 pounds. The capacities are lower for double and crew cab models and with the available all-wheel drive.

4. Ram HD Trucks

When you really need to haul stuff, the 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty trucks are your best options. The interior of Tradesman models are similarly equipped to the Ram 1500. When towing capability is your priority, the 2500 with the available 6.7-liter diesel engine can haul up to 19,780 pounds, while a diesel powered 3500 gives you best-in-class towing capacity of 35,100 pounds. If payload is more important, the gas powered 2500 can carry 4,050 pounds. The 3500 with the gas engine has a best-in-class payload of 7,680 pounds.
