2020 Dodge Challenger

Dodge’s lineup of muscle cars — the Charger, Challenger, and now the Durango SUV — offers impressive performances that make each a highly sought-after vehicle. Here are a few of the features that make Dodge’s sports cars highly impressive.

1. SRT Models

Each of these three vehicles gets the SRT treatment. The SRT, which is short for Street & Racing Technology, is a trim level for each of these sports cars that drivers have come to respect.

The SRT is the Dodge Durango’s final trim level, and it turns the SUV class upside down. Toting a 6.4-liter V-8 engine, it punches out 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. It’s also equipped with a performance-tuned suspension system, powerful Brembo brakes, and more.

However, it’s the Charger’s and Challenger’s SRT models that most often get put on garage wall posters. The Charger’s SRT Hellcat Widebody trim sports a 6.2-liter HEMI engine that creates 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful four-door pony car on the market.

The 2020 Challenger takes the game a step further. It offers two SRTs: the SRT Hellcat and the SRT Hellcat Redeye. The first gets up to 717 horsepower, and the Redeye achieves a 797-horsepower output.

2. Widebody Kits

Each of the Charger’s and Challenger’s SRT and Scat Pack models can be equipped with a widebody option. Widebody kits increase the width of the muscle cars’ stance on the road to improve their traction. This boost in grip decreases the likelihood of sliding when taking on turns as well as spinning out when trying to take on your zero to 60 record. As an added bonus, it also makes the muscle cars look even tougher.

The widebody kit is all about maintaining control over a great amount of power. These kits, along with all three vehicles’ available Brembo brakes and other performance features, let drivers keep better holds on their pony cars’ reins.

3. Muscle Car Style

The Challenger and Charger have unique styles that address how people want their muscle cars to look. The four-door 2020 Charger is fairly new school, with a rounded front fascia and hood and deep chisels along its sides. The two-door 2020 Challenger sticks to its muscle car heritage, which makes it appeal to classic car drivers. The wide-set, flat front fascia with iconic rounded headlamps and sleek body lines stays true to the model’s history but still brings its own flair for the modern era.

Then there’s the Durango. Admittedly, it took us a couple of seconds to get used to an SUV with a hood scoop, but once you’re behind the wheel, it all makes sense. The new Durango is more than a Charger with an SUV body, though there’s nothing wrong with that. Its two-tiered front fascia, muscled body lines, and tough style make us redefine what makes a muscle car a muscle car.
