Kentucky is the place to be when you’re in the mood for a cold brew. With an up and coming craft beer distilling scene, there are tons of microbreweries opening up around the state. Creating a new standard for what hand-crafted beer should be, these small artisan producers are experimenting with new recipes and turning out delicious flavors. If you’re in the mood to try something new, enjoy a cold brew at one of these Paintsville area breweries.

Dreaming Creek Brewery

Located in Richmond’s famous Daniel Boone frontier at 109 E Irvine Street, Dreaming Creek is the first and only microbrewery to pop-up in the town. Founded by a group of friends who love beer, their in-house menu is genuinely one-of-a-kind. This inviting taproom features 24 Kentucky-brewed draft beers and a rotating selection of its own brews such as the 1792 Kentucky Common or the Tick Licker American IPA. Fill up a growler and enjoy a cold drink at Dreaming Creek.

Country Boy Brewing

Head to 436 Chair Avenue in Lexington for a guided tour of Country Boy Brewing. Founded in 2012 by a trio of Kentucky natives, this brewery prides itself on making high-quality, minimally processed beer from real ingredients — and their passion shines through. Sample one of their core brands, including Cliff Jumper India pale ale or the fall seasonal Oktoberfest lager. When you’re tummy starts rumbling, Country Boys serves up small plates, sandwiches, and a variety of specialty hot dogs.

Pivot Brewing

Pivot Brewing at 1400 Delaware Avenue in Lexington is the only cider brewery in Kentucky that presses its apples right on-site. Located in the heart of the Bluegrass country, have a seat in their relaxing taproom and order from a variety of locally-sourced ciders and beer. Why not move your experience to this brewery’s patio? Gaze out over the picturesque view of downtown Lexington’s growing skyline and enjoy the smell of roasting nuts from the peanut butter factory down the road, all while you sip your favorite suds.

Abettor Brewing Company

Now open, this addition to the list is located at 301 W Lexington Avenue in Winchester’s ever-evolving downtown area. A family- and pet-friendly venue by Tyler Montgomery, Abettor Brewing opened its doors in April 2019. This brewery specializes in a variety of well-balanced beers made from the freshest hops grown in neighboring Clark County. Try their proprietary raspberry wheat or the blue-eyed blonde. Flights are just $8, and wine and seltzer are also available.

While beer is the main focus of the brewery, you’ll also enjoy live music, food trucks, and pop-ups from around the state. It’s a terrific place for a cold brew, dining, and entertainment.

Beer is one of the oldest and most widely consumed beverages in the world. If you’re a craft beer enthusiast, you don’t want to miss out on Kentucky’s variety of world-class breweries. No matter which one you select, get ready to enjoy a cold beverage and a one-of-a-kind experience. Which brew will you toast first?
