Take part in Kentucky Tourism today by visiting these three campgrounds near Paintsville, KY.

1. Jenny Wiley State Resort Park

Enjoy a tranquil outdoor experience surrounded by mountains between towering pines on Dewey Lake. More than ten miles of hiking and three miles of mountain biking trails wind through the beautiful surroundings. The area is a birdwatching paradise with sightings of coal-black American redstarts with their bright orange patches, bright blue-backed eastern bluebirds, and majestic bald eagles. In the spring, the warbler migration attracts birders from all over.

Rent a pontoon, canoe, or kayak from the marina, and bring your fishing tackle along to hook hybrid striped bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. The park has two camp areas to choose from. The one offers sites with full hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, restrooms with hot showers, and a dump station. The secluded boat campsites can only be accessed from the water. You can also stay over at May Lodge that overlooks the lake or in one of the 18 cottages.

2. Yatesville Lake State Park

The picturesque park along the shores of the sparkling Yatesville lake is popular with boating, fishing, and nature enthusiasts. The scenic lakeside camp area offers 47 sites with full hookups and 16 boat-in sites. The sites have water, electricity, picnic tables, and fire rings. There is a boat ramp, restroom with showers, laundry room, and a dump station. The nature trails that meander off into the woods can be accessed from the camp area.

Birdlife is abundant with sightings of waterfowl, ospreys, and bald eagles around the marina and dam areas. On warm summer evenings, campers are treated to the songs of the Whip-Poor Will in the trees around the campsites. The park also has the challenging 18-hole Yatesville Lake Golf Course, a pro shop, and a marina with a boat dock and well-stocked store that sells groceries, fishing equipment, and bait.

3. Paintsville Lake State Park

Camp out on Paintsville Lake and explore 1,140 acres of natural beauty on the scenic trails that meander through the tree-shrouded hills and run along the lake’s shoreline of wooded coves and towering cliffs. The camp area has 32 beautiful full-service RV sites and ten primitive walk-in sites close to restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. There are two playgrounds, basketball and volleyball courts, and the picnic tables are right on the banks of the lake.

Paintsville Lake has a full-service marina close to the camp area that offers houseboat, pontoon, pedal boat, and fishing boat rentals. There are docking and launching facilities and a fishing pier. The 18-mile hiking, biking, and horseback riding Dawkins Line Rail Trail that runs from Johnson County to Magoffin County also cut through the park. You are welcome to bring your pets along to camp with you throughout the year.
